Description
A FINE VENETIAN BLUE AND WHITE DISH with deep sunk centre painted in dark blue, yellow and orange with a double coat-of-arms of two German families on a smaltino ground painted in blue with a scrolling floral design in Chinese 15th Century style, the everted rim with entwined double figure of eight leaf medallions between double line blue borders, the underside with a border of floral meander inspired by a Chinese Hsuan Te original, circa 1540, workshop of Maestro Lodovico
Provenance
Munich, loss 1938;
The collection (approx. 440 works) was confiscated by the SS in Munich in 1938 on the occasion of the ‘Reichskristallnacht’ and auctioned at Sotheby's in London in 1939 (7/8 June and 19/20 July).
