Description
Probably made in Flanders. The carpet depicts the allegory of Pax, the embodiment of peace, accompanied by a young man. She stands in the centre and uses a torch to set fire to a suit of armour, including arrows, a bow and halberds, placed on a pedestal to her right.
Provenance
Part of the furnishings for the guest house set up by the city and the RMVP in Rheydt Castle, especially for Joseph Goebbels. Probably in Rheydt Castle from 1942, but at the latest from 1944.
