Description
Silver Empire jug in the shape of a vase with a curved and beaked rim and a wooden ear handle. Under the stepped neck a bundle of strings, the body decorated with a wide floral frieze between strings of pearls, a fan-shaped base and a wreath of leaves at the foot. The curved lid is covered with acanthus leaves, which are also used to attach the handle.
Provenance
Compulsory transfer of precious metals to the Frankfurt/M. loan office in 1939. The art historian Albert Rapp, curator at the Stadtgeschichtliches Museum Frankfurt, who was involved in the inspection of the silver objects, recommended the purchase of the jug to the Lord Mayor of Landshut. Purchased by the city of Landshut from the loan office in May 1939 together with inv. no. 2239b for 120 RM plus postage. Entry in the acquisition book for the year 1942. On the inventory sheet under acquisition: „durch Dr. Rapp für die Stadt in Frankfurt a.M. erworben.“ . Handwritten addition: "1939".
