Fan
Paper fan with ivory struts that are held together at the end with a metal pin. The paper is reinforced on the inside with very fine wooden struts. The outer struts are decorated with carvings (leaf tendrils).
Silver overlays have been applied to the end struts and to some struts on the visible side (flower with leafy tendrils). The paper is completely covered on one side with opaque colours in predominantly blue tones with some red and brown tones colours. The people depicted are wearing rococo clothing. The picture shows a (loving) couple in the centre. The woman is wearing a pink-coloured skirt and a yellowish blouse, the man a red outfit with a blue jacket. On the right of the picture sits a man in a red jacket and with a pipe or flute. On the left is a woman dressed in blue with a shepherdess's crook.
On the reverse is a sketch in shades of green.
This object presumably came from the property of Clara Marx and was added to the collection of the ‘Haus der Heimat - Sauerländisches Friedrich Harkort Museum’ during the Nazi dictatorship through a purchase. However, she did not receive the money for it, as it was allegedly given directly to the tax office due to overdue ‘Jewish property taxes’.
Parts of the collection - such as this object - became the property of the Hagen City Museum in the post-war period.
