Fan
Paper fan with ivory struts that are held together at the end with a metal pin. The paper is reinforced on the inside with very fine wooden struts. A drawing of people in rococo dress is printed in black on one side of the paper. The drawing is hand-coloured. It shows a (loving) couple in the centre in front of a stumpy tree trunk. The woman is wearing a red skirt and yellow blouse, the man a yellow suit and blue jacket. On the right of the picture a boy with a kite is standing at a stele, on the left a man/boy is crouching in front of a chicken. There is a farmstead in the background. The parts of the picture are connected by water, stones and bushes and trees.
This object presumably came from the property of Clara Marx and was added to the collection of the ‘Haus der Heimat - Sauerländisches Friedrich Harkort Museum’ during the Nazi dictatorship through a purchase. However, she did not receive the money for it, as it was allegedly given directly to the tax office due to overdue ‘Jewish property taxes’.
Parts of the collection - such as this object - became the property of the Hagen City Museum in the post-war period.
