The satrap of Susa before Alexander (Deneratus before Alexander)
The tapestry comes from the manufactory of Karel van Mander (II) from Delft. It is labelled and dated KMander fecit AN 1617.
Karel van Mander is one of the masters of the Baroque period. At the time, the Flanders region was the stronghold of European pictorial weaving, whose weavings were rare prestige objects produced in manufactories. The tapestries were often not just individual pieces, but also series of pictures that adorned the courts of European princes.
