Portrait, bust to the left; engraved signatures below the border line: Gemahlt von Schroeder; lower centre: bey J. F. Frauenholtz zu Nürnberg; lower right: Gestochen von J. S. Klauber; inscribed in pencil at upper left: 3510; dry stamp Johann Friedrich Frauenholz [F; publisher; Lugt 994] at lower right; inscribed on the mount in pencil at lower right: 45.

Provenance

11.02.1943 purchased from the art antiquarian Reinhold Puppel, formerly Hollstein & Puppel, Berlin; the art antiquarian was Aryanised in 1936 by the part-owner Puppel. Hollstein, who was Jewish and married and had been banned from the profession, emigrated to Holland in 1937; the sheet was purchased after the Aryanisation of the art shop. It is not known when and from whom the art shop acquired it. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that the print belongs to the old stock of Hollstein & Puppel.
