Description
Torah pointer (Hebrew yad, "hand") of horn and silver. Horn staff tapering downwards with a square cross-section in brownish-black shades. The upper end set in silver with a round eyelet on top for a (missing) chain. A simple silver cuff around the centre of the staff, at the lower end a round silver cuff ending in a hand with an outstretched pointing finger. On the cuff the engraving in Hebrew square script ק''ק ויענה (Kehila Keduscha Viena, "Holy Community of Vienna") above a simple surrounding line engraving. The spelling of the word Vienna as Viena is the Sephardic spelling; however, it differs from the usual Sephardic spelling ביינה or בינה. Possibly an inauthentic inscription?
