Description
Dark oak chest, flat lid. On the front wall four panels with blind arcades. Between the panels and vertical tendril motifs along the edges, but in the middle there is a tulip motif with a lock above it, the fittings of which are missing. The tendril motifs are repeated in a similar form horizontally under the panels across the entire width. The following inscription is carved above the fillings: IF CATRINNA MAGRETA ANGELST ANNO 1772. skid frame.
Provenance
The chest is said to have been bought in 1936 or somewhat earlier from a Jewish family in Emden who were about to emigrate in order to establish their own household in Gifhorn. The donor's mother expressed the wish that the furniture should be returned to East Frisia.
