The book came into the possession of Karl Wolfskehl through the antiquarian trade in 1898, which sold it and his library to the merchant and bibliophile Salman Schocken. The proceeds of the sale and a ransom allowed him to emigrate to New Zealand, where he lived until his death (1956). In his library the early print was No. 61 879. Schocken, in turn, surpassed his library of the "Schocken-Collection Ltd." foundation founded at Jerusalem. This brought the German-speaking parts to auction by the auction house Dr. Ernst Hauswedell & Ernst Nolte in Hamburg in the autumn of 1975.
