Description
On the left, in the picture, a doorstep, descending in a moody mood two pairs of distinguished courtly attire. In the background visible the castle, before further Staffage. On the left, stone handrail of the staircase, behind, a sculptured half-hewn column. Front on the right handrail a plinth. In the background left medium-strong trees of the park, to the right of the stairs a strong tree
Provenance
1872 Creation of the painting by the artist. 1939 (probably August) Purchase of the painting by the Reichskanzlei from the gallery Almas-Dietrich. Acquired before this from the art practice at Lützowplatz in Berlin or Geyer, from German possession. 1945 Takeover of the painting from the former mining town Altaussee to the CCP Munich. Registration under the number Mü. 1762. 1969 Transfer of the painting into the department of the Federal Foreign Office. There is no evidence of a Nazi persecution-related loss of assets. Because of the gaps in the history of provenance, however, such a situation can not be completely ruled out.
