In 1941, the Viennese Romance scholar Prof. Dr. Elise Richter and her sister, Dr. h. c. Helene Richter, sold the largest part of their personal library to the Universitäts- und Stadtbibliothek (USB) Cologne. The collection consisted mostly of books belonging to the fields of Romance languages, Linguistics, Literary Studies and English language and literature. 535 of the original 2235 titles have now been identified within the holdings of the USB Cologne. Some of the books still contain the ex libris (bookplate) of the sisters Richter. In case of those books books that were rebound, dedications and a comparision of the inventory numbers served as proof for the former possession of Elise and Helen Richter. See also: external link
