Designation bottom centre: " Dessiné et gravé par Mécou d'après le buste de Houdon". Caption on the plate: "Imperatori Francorum Primo, Nulli Romanorum Secundo, Napoleoni Magno." Without passepartout. On the back of the sheet pencil note "34L" top left corner.
Provenance
Presumably in 1941/42 the tax office of Mainz transferred it to the copperplate engraving collection of the Painting Gallery of the City of Mainz. (The dating of the transfer is not completely secured, as it is only handed down by a typewritten list, which was drawn up in 1943 and dated by hand to the year 1941/42). There are no indications of pre-provenance.
