Naples
The painting shows the Bay of Naples seen from the northwest. In the foreground on the left is the shallow shore with fishermen and boats. The right part of the painting shows the wide sea lapping against the shore in gentle waves. In the background the city is depicted in the left part of the picture, behind it Vesuvius rises into the cloudy sky.
The work is signed "R. Alt" at lower left, but not dated. It is assumed to have been painted after 1867.
