The painting shows a wide mountain landscape. In the foreground there is a rock that rises to the right edge of the painting. Behind it a path leads into the mountain valley. To the left of the path an S-shaped river flows towards the hilly landscape. On the right bank of the river there are houses and a high rock with a ruin in the background. The artist depicted a similar motif in his painting "Heimburg an der Sieg".
The work is signed lower left and dated "Th. Hagen / ..f 1868".
